Are you out sailing the world, or planning to? Here are some resources we’ve created that we hope you’ll find useful.

The Chart Locker

The Chart Locker is a collection of downloadable satellite images and nautical charts in MBtile format for use with OpenCPN and other navigation programs. Nearly all the islands in the Tropical Pacific are covered, as well as the coast from the US/Mexico border all the way to South America. Plus New Zealand, the east coast of Australia, and many islands of the Caribbean. And guess what…? They’re free!

Tropical Pacific ASCAT Real-Time Satellite Winds by Country/Island/Region

ASCAT satellites provide (nearly) real-time data for wind speed and direction over the ocean. The graphics are an excellent tool to use to check the accuracy of whatever weather forecasting tool you are using. This PDF makes it easy to find the ASCAT images for the region you’re in.
